Is this still going on in some other form?
Poor old Darwin. So misunderstood by his followers. He was actually a nice old chap with fairly tame ideas, but his extremist disciples took his thoughts a bit too far. At least that is the spin being put out by many Darwinists and atheists today.

While more sober minds see a clear line between Darwin's ideas and many of the horrible social experiments of the twentieth century, including Nazism, defenders of Darwin argue that at best there is no connection, or at worst any such episodes are aberrations or perversions of what Darwin believed.

But is that the case? Most people are not even aware of the full title of his 1859 masterwork: On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life. That last half of the title, often overlooked, sounds like it could come straight out of a Ku Klux Klan manual.

this is different! must see this!

My sister told me that I HAD TO check out Mongolian Throat Singing when I was in Mongolia. I had no idea what to expect. What I found was a strong form of music, an unbelievable use of the vocal chords to create sound vibrations. You could literally feel them in your chest!

Mongolia is a vast, empty space - the least densely populated place in the world. And yet this music is so full, deep and rich. It is haunting hearing it boom out into the nothingness.

Dubai de Binakayan part 2

School children didn't have much to worry then, all they needed was a few notebooks, some pieces of pad papers and a pencil, a few books and a simple bag. There were only few private schools, so most of the primary schools were public and these schools had a very high reputations then. After finishing elementary schooling, then it was time to choose between public or private high school. One public high school that is still existing today is the Emilio Tria Tirona Memorial National High School located in Kawit. Two private high schools are in Imus, they are Del Pilar Academy and Imus Institute.
Binakayan was economically progressive then, it being just one of the many barrios of the town of Kawit, its public market already serves the whole town and even the neighboring towns of Imus, Noveleta and Bacoor despite the fact that these towns too had their own markets. There were at least two theaters in the barrio and a big cockpit arena. There was a rural bank and many commercial banks numbering at least 8 at one time were established and there were also a number of pawnshops. There were four gasoline stations serving the motorists. It was the peoples' center of activities and adding to this was the presence of some restaurants and drinking places.Binakayan was so strategically located that on one side are rice fields and on the other lies the ever providing sea. There were farmers and fishermen as well. There were quite a number of industries found in the area and they were the main source of income for the people. There was the pottery industry, salt making industry during summer, wooden shoe industry, sash (capis)industry, fish ponds, rice and vegetable farms as well as orchards with almost all of the different kinds of fruit bearing trees. But it was the oyster and mussel industry that made Binakayan well known.
Old folks could still remember Ma's Place conveniently located in the main street called Bantayan. This was a combination of an ice cream parlor and a kiosk which became a very prominent landmark in the area. This was the favorite place for the US servicemen to stop on their way to and from Subic naval base in Zambales or Clark air field in Pampanga and Sangley Pt. naval base in Cavite city. Here they would spend some hours drinking San Miguel beer, their favorite drinks of course. Also located just a block away was a bowling alley where teen agers with some old folks alike would gather not just to play but to have a little competition to see who the best bowler would be.
Summer was the most awaited season, because it was this time that baseball tournaments were held. People from all walks of life were really very enthusiastic about this game. There were at least three tournaments held yearly in different areas of the barrio. One would be in the Kanluran area (western),one in the Lawin area( eastern )and another in the Pulvorista area ( northern ).There were a lot of competing teams in these tournaments sometimes as many as 6 - 10 teams per tournaments. There were times when these three tournaments were held almost simultaneously and the people would not know what tournament to watch at a given time.Life in the barrio was very easy and so much fun and people were very generous and kind to each other. You could even ask a neighbor for some food if you had nothing to eat and they would gladly be giving more than you asked for.
This socio-economic factors served as the catalysts for the rapid growth of the barrio and at the same time became the magnet to attract many migrants from different parts of the country especially those coming from the Visayas region to come to the place and settle to share with the progress of the barrio. The late 80's showed the rapid growth of the area especially in terms of population when informal settlers were allowed to set in. Varied reasons ranging from social, economical and political worsened the situation and the construction of the Covelandia diversion road(Boracay de Binakayan) provided an ideal place for these settlers to thrive and flourish.
Now, it is very different, the old face of Binakayan is disappearing very fast and a new or a very strange image is fast emerging. Gone are those beautiful, peaceful, and happy times that was once the main character of a place we know.
Now that another diversion road is on going which reclaimed a vast portion of the Bacoor and Binakayan bay(Dubai de Binakayan) as well, one could just but wonder, is this Binakayan?
With the beautiful setting sun viewed against the reclaimed sea now with its steel and concrete structures instead of the usual bamboo poles and mangroves, one could just wonder! Is this the dawn of a new era in history and time to say goodbye to old sweet and lovely place that is Binakayan.

Dubai de Binakayan

Dubai de Binakayan?
Why? Someone would wonder!
Is it really comparable with regards to progress and wealth? Well maybe or maybe not! Is there really a standard for wealth and progress? If so, what could that be and who sets such standard?
Having been born and raised in what was then a beautiful and peaceful barrio of Binakayan, and that was in the early 50's, one would really wonder and ask, why?
Life was very easy going then and people would just take one step at a time,so to speak.Almost all residents were legitimate and were born in the place though there were but a few migrants yet everybody seems to know each other. Each clan or family has their own callings or aliases (bansag). To name a few, there are the posporo family, swallow, kabayo, bageng, bibe, aswang, gaway, surot and kalabaw.Every family were known even from neighboring barrios or even municipalities. If one would be looking for a person one would just ask someone and all that he needed would be to give the family alias and surely he could find who he was looking for.The people were much healthier and there were but a few sick people. They used to walk going to and from their daily destinations even if it be a kilometer or much longer distance. The older ladies who would be going to market to buy their daily food and stuff because there were no refrigerators then, men would be getting water from the public artesian wells would have their pushcarts full of tin cans(balde) to fetch their daily water needs. And people would drink this water and nobody got sick of any kind due to this water.Yes, this water would be used in taking a bath,in cooking foods and in drinking.Water needed for washing clothes, cleaning the house and watering the plants would come from man made open wells (balon).Mothers would just let their babies play and sleep in a crib made of wood and bamboo sticks and this would be so big that even the mother could go inside to breastfeed the baby and when the baby was full and asleep, she could readily get off and continue with her house chores.Children were allowed to play and wonder around some orchards (looban) even without their slippers on, they would be called to go home if it is already time to eat and after their lunch they would help in cleaning the mess and washing the dishes. They will then be told to have a siesta or a nap. After this, they would then go back to play again till it's almost dark.Everybody, young and old must be home before six pm for the praying of the angelus headed by the grandmother (lola).School children would go to school in their uniforms and wooden shoes (bakya) or rubber sandals (tsinelas).Very early in the morning they would walk their way to the school and go home to eat lunch and then return to school and go home after class in the afternoon..........to be continued for more nostalgic moments.

Life is becoming endangered here on earth and it is our moral obligation to seed the universe with life.
